You take a heaping healthy dose of luck when going to 'make an example of that Gryphside.'

You'll need it.

A father with very little left to lose and vulnerable emotions is almost as terrifying as a *mother* with very little left to lose and vulnerable emotions.

Personally, I'd rather eat a shoe-box full of wood-chips. Whole. Unsalted.

The dinosaurs thought they were pretty apex reptiles too, and how many of them are still here today?

Well put. Still, we don't know enough about the gryphside and drakeside to know who'd come out on top. And would a fight leave the victor too tired to get to the Skybox? It's tough to say... I hope they don't catch up with Phoebus until he finds Shanti or they both get to the Skybox.

Ah, but we don't even know if the siders really must return to the box...

My personal hypothesis is that they do not have to, and that the human form isn't a necessity either, or is some kind of 'curse' if you will; That it's all part of some type of system designed to keep them all busy and weak to suit some unknown force's purposes.

...I just really really want Pandora to be alive. Is it showing? :P

As to who would be on top? My personal impression so far has been that they're all equally matched fighters in the end as far as base biology is concerned. What would cinch a fight would be numbers on each side, skills, environment, weapons if any, and emotional investment.

Again... All just hypothesis... But as someone who has written pretty extensively for fantasy creature protagonists, I can say with some confidence that you usually end up having to make them all roughly category-equal in a fight to serve the purposes of the narrative.
